The slogan ‘closer to the apple’ is closely adhered to, and the colour can vary as the product hasn’t been filtered to clarity like other commercially-produced ciders. Napton Cidery made their first batch of cider as most do – from the apple tree in their garden. Thrilled by the result Napton Cidery was born the very next year, with the sole mission to collect unwanted apples from the village/surrounding orchards and make something wonderful. From pressing a simple 2000 litres in 2015, they now press over 45,000 litres; all sourced from small orchards across the UK to support sustainable British farming. Another medium dry cider that’s made its way onto our list, it was originally called Vat 53 after the oak vat that was used to mature the product. Other ciders in the Stowford Press family include the low alcohol alternative, which has the same bittersweet taste but at no more than 0.5% ABV. The company have also recently introduced a mixed berries blend, a sweet alternative. Thundering Molly boasts a slightly stronger ABV of 5.2%, setting it apart from other ciders in the range.
