Use your scraper again to make sure the vinyl is securely adhered to the tray without any noticeable bubbles. This is what the finished tray looks like! Smooth the transfer tape over the decal from the center outward making sure to press out and remove any bubbles. When the transfer tape is in place, use a scraper tool or other hard and flat-edged item (like a store loyalty card) to transfer the vinyl decal design to the transfer tape. It’s important to scrape it well to transfer the vinyl decal. It helps to scrape it from both the transfer tape side AND the carrier sheet side. Still working on the underside of your cutting board, drill approximately 1/16” deep, or just deep enough to sink the screw head in the wood. First, you’ll want to decide where you’d like to attach the handles on the cutting board or wood slab. If you are using the same handles and cutting board I used, make sure you cut out the template SVG I provided, and use that to help determine where to drill the holes for the screws. Place the paper template FLUSH against the short side of the wood on the UNDERSIDE side of the cutting board. Tape it in place using painters tape. NOTE: The template does not need to be flush against the top and bottom edges. Vertically it can just be centered so your handles will be centered. Here's a helpful guide.To make the words look more like realistic chalk writing, take a piece of chalk and smudge it around the outlines of the white vinyl. For even projects, eliminate the risk of bubbles by just using a squeegee! For greater flexibility, gently (and carefully) warm up the vinyl with a hairdryer until it wraps around your item. In Design Space, create a Text box like we did in Step 1 above and type your descriptive words. For my tray, I typed “Tapenade,”“Roasted Garlic” and “Sun Dried Tomato.” I used Tingler Script font and sized each to approximately 0.6” tall, which was 28pts.

If you are using the same cutting board and handles I am, I also included an SVG file as a template to help determine where to drill the holes for the handle screws. Just import this file in DS the same way you did above. IMPORTANT: You do NOT want to change the size or alter this template in any way. Now, center your chalkboard vinyl on the tray. You can eyeball it, but if you want to make sure it's perfectly centered you can measure and follow this placement guideline, which allows for approximately 1/2" from the top, bottom and inside edges of the handles. Yours may be a little different due to variability in the wood boards.

Now, attach the handles by feeding 1" screws up from the underside of the wood board and screwing them into the handles (if you are using the same handles as me, use the SMALLER of the two screw sizes). Once your pilot holes are drilled, change your bit to a 5/32” bit (or one that fits your screw size that came with your handles). Redrill each of the holes to make them bigger and the correct size to fit the diameter of the handle screws. Now you want to countersink your holes so when you attach the screws they are are flush with the wood and not poking out (so the screw heads don’t scratch your table). To do this, load a 3/8” drill bit shaped like this Dewalt bit with a pilot point. The shape is important so you create a "shelf" for the screw head to rest on.Adhere the top edge of the vinyl first, and then carefully lay it downward over the wood using your scraper to push out any bubbles or creases in the vinyl as you go. Make sure both the vinyl and transfer tape are well-adhered to the wood tray. Select your Base Material when prompted. If you are cutting the optional handle template, make sure to select Laser Paper or Copy Paper as your material for that mat. You’ll want to choose Chalkboard Vinyl for the decals. I selected "More Pressure" to ensure a nice clean cut.
