Our team are working extended hours to get through this as quickly as possible, we ask you to be patient during this busy time. I actually almost never zip the day pack onto my bag to carry it (I usually just carry it on my front while traveling and just bring the big bag while backpacking) so I can’t help too much with that question, unfortunately. Well that puts even more pressure on my shoulders area because the heaviest item in my luggage is far away from my back.

The down side to this kind of backpack though is that if you’ve perfectly rolled everything to fit it in, I find by opening the whole backpack things tend to start to unroll and it gets a bit messy. In addition, the manufacturing companies transparently disclose their entire supply chain with regard to social requirements, environmental principles and sustainability. You can unravel a flap at the bottom of the pack with a zipper closure to encase the shoulder straps and hip belt, which is handy if you check the bag as it ensures that nothing happens to the straps in transit. So, I literally live out of this bag and have for three years of full-time travel through more than 20 countries. Total Blogger Transparency: I accepted this backpack free-of-charge for review purposes, but all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I was super impressed with Osprey, not just with the Farpoint 55 model that I’m looking at today, but also with the choice of styles available and the handy Packsizer app. Putting the larger compartment on the outside may seem nonsensical, but we found that this part was best for clothing and puffier, lighter weight items, so it didn't make the bag feel too unwieldy or unbalanced. This gives you the advantage of being able to access the contents of your backpack without having to pull everything out to find something.

Even if you don't use the big bag all that often, we found ourselves toting the day pack around often in everyday life at home. However, Osprey recommends separating the main backpack from the daypack when taking the bag as a carry-on. I keep them together, however, and have another small backpack for my carry-on that holds my electronics and various stuff I want on the plane. It copies some trekking features from other Osprey backpack designs while still being a travel-focused backpack overall. If functionality and durability are most important to you, you can't go wrong with the Osprey Sojourn Porter 46!

The Osprey Farpoint bag comes with a lifetime warranty so it’s with me for the long-haul and the only bag I’ll ever use for travel, hiking, and backpacking trips around the world. They’re well padded and have mesh for airflow, so they’re quite comfortable, considering the size of the pack. The daypack can also be clipped to the front of the main bag so you can keep track of important papers/other valuables — although it does look a little funny.

Also, the Farpoint has a more substantial backpanel than the Osprey Porter 46, so we didn't have to pay as much attention to what we packed against our backs to ensure awkwardly shaped, hard objects didn't end up protruding into our backs. There are five small loops on the front face of the pack where you can attach things like a strap or a carabiner. But on long international flights with multiple connections, it can be nice to be light on your feet through foreign airports.

There’s nothing elasticated on the front of the daypack to quickly stuff in a jumper or rain jacket. This latest edition introduces some well-considered improvements that make it more comfortable for longer carry, though fortunately without adding to the pack’s overall weight.Do you think the “external gear attachment loops” at teh bottom could be used for this sort of thing? As an added benefit, the shoulder straps and hip belt can be zipped away behind a flap so you can easily and safely check it on a plane or carry it without fear of getting a strap caught. The Farpoint 55 Trek is ideal if you’re looking for a bag that you can use for travel and potentially for trekking as well.
