With beautiful photography throughout, Gardening at Longmeadow is an essential book for gardening enthusiasts of all skill levels. Each month focuses on plants that are at their height that month whether they are ornamental or edible, tasks to do and what that month means to Monty and Longmeadow. This beautiful, full colour book guides us through the history and beauty of Japanese gardens, from the famous cherry blossom to the magnificence of autumn colours. He has been gardening correspondent for the Observer since 1994 and is at the forefront of the environmental and organic gardening debate. Part of Monty Don’s garden is dedicated to wildlife, and this pond is intended as a habitat for insects, frogs and birds. Monty Don’s Herefordshire garden, Longmeadow, is well known to garden enthusiasts around the UK as the setting of BBC’s Gardener’s World, and its yearly cycles are well documented on the broadcaster’s social media feeds. From the beginning of the book you get a real sense that Longmeadow is a very special place to the author.
