But even during times of peace, the threat of Sparta - Athens's legendary rival - looms large on the horizon. I appreciate there's a lot of story to tell regarding the Peloponnesian wars and it may be hard to fit it all in a single book but I thought the ending was extremely rushed and very disappointing.

Our Non-Fiction Range includes: Academic, Photography, Audio books, Business, Cook Books, Craft Books, Health and Fitness Books, Mind, Body, Spirit (Tarot). So glad I found you today and managed to also find a perfect gift for my lovely uncle on his 92nd birthday. However, Iggulden was tremendously skillful in implementing this narrative; I never felt lost and I was able to easily follow which character’s head I’m in.

This author is a favourite of mine when it comes to historical fiction, this book is another wonderful action-packed one that tells the story of Pericles and is the second book in The Golden Age series. As opposing legions join in mortal combat, the destiny of Rome will turn on which of their commanders is the mightiest and most cunning. The region at the time was one that was fought over constantly, with each tribe or country wanting to get the upper hand. Brings these great characters to life and gives an insight into the fears and suffering caused by wars and greed. Having already taken on Julius Caesar, Genghis Khan, and the War of the Roses, Iggulden successfully dramatizes the life of Dunstan, Abbot of Glastonbury and confidant of King Aethelstan, the grandson of Alfred the Great.

The sale of customised goods or perishable goods, sealed audio or video recordings, or software, which has been opened. To make matters worse, Pericles – yes, the very same one, son of Xanthipus – spearheads the building of a protective wall all around Athens. And for both, the love of an extraordinary slave girl will be an honor each will covet but only one will win. I have now read both books about Pericles and thought that the second was slightly better than the first. He then attended St Dominic's Sixth Form College, before studying English at the University of London, [2] later going on to teach the subject for seven years, becoming head of the English department at Haydon School, where one of his students was Fearne Cotton. The author ensures, as always, that all the main characters are well-rounded and believable in every sense. As I’ve mentioned before, Temujin’s natural instinct lies in his strength, charisma, and ruthlessness; he’s simply a natural-born leader following the footsteps of his father: Yesugei.

Every installment brought something new—factual, speculative, and philosophical—to learn and this doesn’t change even though I’m four books into the series now.Conn Iggulden isn’t exactly an unfamiliar name to me; despite the fact that he’s most well-known for his historical fiction works, Iggulden’s blurbs have been featured on some of my favorite fantasy books such as The Faithful and the Fallen series by John Gwynne and The Realm of the Elderlings series by Robin Hobb, to name a few. Nothing last forever, there will come a time where you just have to put down your weapons and accept that you’re not the same as you were when you were young.
