With the concept album, singer Martin Fry processed a separation, which the often critical to cynical lyrics make clear. Lauding the "pristine pop songs", he declared that it "remains a benchmark of 80s pop, and a formidable collection of melodramatic love songs assembled in one neat package. ABC also enjoyed US success with The Lexicon of Love, as ‘Poison Arrow’ and ‘The Look of Love’ did well on the Billboard Hot 100 (number 18 and 25 respectively) and the album reached the top 30, Stateside. Double CD of the show, presented in a deluxe 6 panel fold out sleeve with accompanying 8 page booklet. ABC was formed by Stephen Singleton and Mark White following the breakup of electronic band Vice Versa.

The SDE blu-ray additionally features the original 1982 mix of The Lexicon of Love in hi-res 96/24 stereo, whereas the blu ray in the vinyl box features video material instead, so each edition is unique.Poison Arrow" kept the blood circulating during the bitter winter of early 1982, before third single "The Look of Love" became their biggest hit. I guess Michael Jacksons Thriller and Fleetwood Macs Tango in the night would also be contenders but Lexicon of love truly is a timeless album and blows your mind everytime you hear it. Ken Tucker of The Philadelphia Inquirer was less enthusiastic, dismissing the album as "prissy dance music, light on the beat and heavy on the sort of maundering crooning that the effete English rock musicians frequently mistake for passion.

There are 4 classy singles featured here:- 'Tears Are Not Enough', the punchy 'Poison Arrow', 'The Look Of Love' and, best of all, the gorgeous ballad 'All of My Heart'. Between November 4 and 9, 2015, the band and orchestra also performed at Liverpool's Philharmonic Hall, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Sheffield City Hall, the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in London and Symphony Hall, Birmingham. The Lexicon of Love sounds fantastic, thanks to the impeccable credentials of the ‘backroom’ team; it was produced by Trevor Horn, engineered by Gary Langan, with keyboards and orchestration by Anne Dudley.

Some of the founding members of the later record label ZTT Records and the band The Art of Noise collaborate in the production of the album. In a BBC review of the 2004 Deluxe Edition, Rob Webb stated that " The Lexicon of Love stands as a landmark album in British pop", and "underpins just what a sharp band ABC were: witty, lyrical and very, very funky". surround sound Blu-ray remixes by Steven Wilson, as well as a remastered vinyl edition of the original mix, was released in August 2023. Tears Are Not Enough" (in its initial release produced by Steve Brown), "All of My Heart", "Poison Arrow" and "The Look of Love" were all top-20 entries in the UK; the latter two also charted in the US, peaking at No. The majority of the album was recorded at Sarm East Studios in London, with additional work done at Abbey Road, Townhouse, RAK and Good Earth studios.
