The stakes are low in comparison to the world ending threat of the Archon, but the banter, the romance and a sumptuous ball are exactly what I wanted. even though he's a demon mostly incapable of real feelings, he's still able to show that he does care about the people around him, which is amazing. I’m sure I speak for many others when I say it’s always fun getting domestic scenes of our favorite duos. In this sequel novella to Sorcery of Thorns, Elisabeth, Nathaniel, and Silas must unravel the magical trap keeping them inside Thorn Manor in time for their Midwinter Ball!

It felt wonderful being reconnected with Elisabeth, Nathaniel, and Silas under low stakes and mysterious circumstances.i think readers who are nostalgic for all the feelings ‘a sorcery of thorns’ gave and were wanting an extended epilogue will really enjoy this short story! Honestly, if, through some godsend miracle, Margaret Rogerson publishes another novella or full-length novel - I would definitely not hate that - I would love to explore their relationship some more, maybe how they'll be and what they'll be doing together years from now. I could not possibly recommend this book more highly and I have once again been reminded of why Margaret is now and forevermore one of my favorite authors of all time. Elisabeth and Nathaniel are living a mostly quiet and mundane life in the manor, until the day they wake up to the manor having barricaded itself against the outside world. If Sorcery of Thorns wasn't proof enough, this novella has all the evidence of just how much of an evil genius this demon is and how much he truly loves and cares about his bound charges.

I'm a tremendous sucker for intimate found family moments, and we get plenty of those in this novella. At Books2Door, we believe that reading is a fundamental skill that every child should have to help improve their vocabulary, grammar, and critical thinking skills. With no access to the outside world, Elisabeth and Nathaniel have to work together to discover the source of the magic before they're due to host the city's Midwinter Ball.but also, this (in my praying opinion) is a very nice set up for my favorite morally grey demon companion.

She felt, with a passion that tore at her, that she could make a real difference: that given the chance, she could find a way to protect both humans and books equally.
