A firm and powerful attack with plenty of fresh fruit, nuts, spices and a peaty smokiness with a long and silky finish. Nikka uses coal-fired stills to distil this single malt, a rare method which has now been lost in Scottish single malt whisky-making.

The location for the Miyagikyo distillery was selected because of its clean air, just the right humidity for storage, and abundant underground water filtered through a layer of peat. Founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, the brand is headquartered in Tokyo and is the country's second largest distiller. Yoichi malts are described as bold and strong with refined peaty notes and smokiness brought by the traditional direct coal-fired distillation. The distillery, founded by Masataka Taketsuru in 1934, is renowned for its commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

This is a blend of single malts from different years and consequently does not carry an age statement. A subtle blend of Yoichi casks of various ages, of which a large portion was matured in ex-sherry casks, the perfect representative of Nikka’s historic single malt expresses a delicate balance between smoky, fruity and floral aromas. Later joining a company that aspired to make genuine whisky, he succeeded under its employment in producing Japan's first whisky. With a delicate aroma of apples, this expression showcases a beautiful harmony of finesse and sweetness brought by apple brandy casks and Yoichi single malt’s original characteristics such as rich malt flavors, gentle peaty notes and smokiness.Vatting various different malt whiskies together, this bottling expresses a delicate balance between peaty, smoky and fruity aromas. This limited edition of the Yoichi has been finished in Nikka’s apple brandy casks and bottled in 2020 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Masataka and Rita’s marriage in 1920. This no-age-statement version was released in 2016 as a permanent product that truly captures the authentic style of Yoichi malts, when all age-statements were discontinued.
