I never felt immersed in the material because it comes across like some CG reinvention of the footage. Perhaps in the future when the Beatles (finally) re-release the original Let it Be movie there may be some additional material but what’s included here is exactly what’s been streaming on Disney. Having watched this, you’ll ask yourself whether these sessions really were as bad as we were first led to believe. All this footage that Jackson has expertly put together plays out like a narrative feature film instead of just a conveyor belt of stream-lined footage.

But there’s no bonus features, no original-cut of Let It Be (which was promised when Get Back was announced) and there appears to be no UHD 4K edition. What we do get is a digibook case with candid photos taken during the original shoot, as well as a set of four 6. We saw Linda’s daughter playing around in Let It Be, but she looked like a real nuisance in need of “correction” in Get Back. This footage of the band rehearsing, writing, arguing, laughing, and coming to terms with their eventual breakup has been unseen since it was filmed. This is an option I didn’t think I’d enjoy but I must say it’s pretty darn cool (see photos of this screen below).

But two observations: 1) Yoko was not as quiet as Let It Be portrayed or as Peter Jackson said she was. They proved in this remake that the Beatles had an amazing time together despite some differences between themselves. even open up all that wide at the most intensely musical scenes, but the feeling for clarity and width are fine. The series offers unprecedented access to the world’s most iconic band as they prepare to record the Let It Be album.

And Paul kept insisting John play it over and over…causing John to have that I’m-about-to-storm-outa-here look. The cameras zero in (with help from later editing by Jackson) on George’s eyes during the creative process of the song Get Back after George is figuratively pushed to the side while Paul and John share their own epiphanies.
