The main characters are kids, yet prostitution, politics and violence play a big part of the story which is set in Whitechapel, London in the Victorian era. It made the story difficult to follow but even without the complication I think it would have been hard to follow nonetheless. But aside from receiving their own chapter title in 1890’s The Sign of the Four, these poppets tended to stay underfoot.

But it’s a good read for any interested in side stories about Sherlock Holmes, it’s a fun concept, well executed. But first he must take down the most dangerous member of Moriarty’s network: the cold-blooded killer Colonel Moran. The main characters are teens but sometimes the subject matter is a bit adult or seems geared towards an older audience. Then, when a Russian immigrant is framed for a Jack the Ripper–inspired crime, our heroes set out to discover the truth and uncover a conspiracy that may go deeper than they ever imagined.

I hope everyone enjoys the series and I think it's the perfect way to introduce young people to the legend.
