I really want a 5 string and I've narrowed it down to these two:

Which one do you think I should go for? I already have a great 4 string so thats why I drift away from the fender... But then will the squier be that good?

The only time the Fender will have a BIG advantage of the Squier is when you're gigging and recording. So if you're planning on gigging/recording much with the new bass then you might as well invest in the Fender.. If it's just for practice and to get comfortable with a 5 string bass, then get the squier

Get a nicer colour though. Looks a bit boring.

Failing that, get the Aerodyne Jazz Bass. Best looking bass on the market

Yea Dan get a white bass man! that's what the cool kids do (Me + Mike) :P

then you can play punk rock effectively... none of that slappy funk stuff :P

Low end Fender 5 strings aren't that great. I've always found the B strings to be too floppy.

A Yamaha RBX375 or RBX775 would be a great choice as would a similar spec Ibanez such as an SR305
