The story itself was quite predictable and nothing really new happened that I haven't seen elsewhere. She's just so full of attitude and opinion, and was a joy to read about, especially her art versus technology conflicts with her father. A great book with a good balance of normal childhood life and a mythical story, a pacy plot, a humble hero, goodies and baddies, everything an 8 year old loves - and his mum too! Featuring a faded seaside town teeming with legend and danger, Alex Neptune is fun and full of heart, perfect for readers who love mysteries and heists. Alex and his friends set out to free the creature, making some very interesting discoveries along the way.

There are different stages and some twists to the hurdles people encounter, but overall it was highly satisfying to see how everyone fits into the bigger picture. If he can’t find a way to stop it, the deadly parasite it’s carrying could spread throughout the seas.

First of all I have been following David’s work for years and I am so happy that he has tried his hand at children’s/MG as well as YA – and that this book looks to be blowing up in a good way!Great, inclusive characters and a really charming story with the promise of another book in the series. Along with friends Zoey and Anil - plus a clumsy seal, a lock-picking hermit crab and some seriously menacing otters - Alex sets out on a treasure hunt to a secret shipwreck where they must face three monstrous challenges.
