It was hosted by Bernard Cribbins and had 2 teams of celebrities competing against each other and one round was charades, almost identical to Give Us a Clue in format. Talkback Thames (as it then was) hawked around a revival in 2010 after a Dutch version ( Hints) was a hit, with Kirsten O'Brien and Rufus Hound in charge of Andi Osho, Katherine Ryan and Mel Giedroyc and James Redmond, Paul Tonkinson and Charlie Baker, but to no takers. Hosted by Michael Aspel, each contestant has two minutes to get their teammates to guess their mime - otherwise it's thrown open to the other team for a bonus point! The members of the public taking the fourth seats is a bit weird and I’m glad they quickly dropped it. Liza is great, but one thing I've noticed is that each time she's given her card with the title she has to perform she reacts as if it's the most difficult one anyone has ever been given.

The majority of the episodes look so good, that I have to wonder why they haven’t been run on TV for a long time. What surprised me while rewatching the opening season is that each team of four (regular captain, plus three competitors) actually featured a member of the public alongside the celebrities. Many of my favourite moments in the 1988 series have come from simply watching Lionel leaning back in his chair and cackling at something. The only bonus on offer is that every episode comes with subtitles; Making this show more accessible than ever before. Yet here she is on Give Us A Clue, alongside Una Stubbs and Angela Douglas, studiously watching John Inman giving us The Wayward Wind in the quiet hope of stealing a point from the boys' team. I guess that’s the bonus of the three discs that contain this version; The game is so lively you don’t really care.

Incidentally, Tracey is the only panelist whose large, full handbag is on display underneath and behind her chair. Maureen made a quip that the microphone didn't quite catch, but which had the men's team in stitches. I'm hoping the later series with Michael Parkinson, Lisa Goddard and Lionel Blair will also be released soon. Plus there are huge names from light entertainment and films like the Carry Ons, as well as singers, stand-ups and high profile sportspeople like Sharron Davies and Hurricane Higgins. I would guess that they always filmed 2 (or maybe even 3 episodes) on the same day so being able to film them back to back instead of having the change the cast midway though would have reduced costs.Failure of either Party to insist upon strict performance of any provision of this or any Agreement or the failure of either Party to exercise any right or remedy to which it, he or they are entitled hereunder shall not constitute a waiver thereof and shall not cause a diminution of the obligations under this or any Agreement.

Not least Kenny Everett's legendary interpretation of Puck Of Pook's Hill at around 18:50 in this vid. It seems Fiona and Paul are married, and there were some sickeningly cutesy in-jokes when each had to perform a title that involved the term "wife" or "husband" (ugh. We will publish your review of Give Us a Clue on DVD within a few days as long as it meets our guidelines.

There was some redemption in Part Two with first-time player William Boyde nailing his performance of the appropriately-titled Shame And Scandal In The Family and winning Lionel's favour. I was always amazed at the quality of the guests they had on the show, some of the biggest names in entertainment from the period seemed to make appearances. The more I listen to the lyrics, the more I think they're actually very clever as well as very catchy, and makes a perfect theme as it's unforgettable.

The first couple of series features Blair and Stubbs each playing in teams with two other celebrities and a member of the public. My mum and me were avid viewers of the original run, so I was thrilled to hear the first five years’ worth of episodes were being made available in a 13-disc DVD set. This Company does not however exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence. Sadly Network, the company who produced these dvds, is now defunct, which leaves a gap in the market, so you may have to hunt around for a copy.
