Paperboyo is an English photographer who has turned what once was a hobby into a full-time profession playing with perspective, history, and architecture. His travels have taken him to some of the world’s most stunning locations including New York, Rio de Janeiro, Dubai, and the moais of Easter Island. As for Andrew, he has been reading for a few hours already, as usual, on his favorite chair found in a second-hand shop. They often draw their inspiration from Merci's temporary exhibitions, which they love to walk around except on weekends and Wednesdays, the children's day. The first collaborations will launch in the UK with two artists who have achieved worldwide recognition and attracted large communities to their social media channels thanks to their highly imaginative work. These artists include the photographer Rich McCor, better known as Paperboyo, and Fei Wang, contemporary artist and Chinese illustrator known under the pseudonym of Mr.Slowboy. It’s been my second time in Florence during Pitti but first time when I got in to the fair at Fortezza. And I always have my notebook with me now, so hopefully I won’t loose this one.

Thank you for taking the time to chat with us, Fei. For the blog readers that don’t know you, can you tell us a little about yourself and your work? It would be easy to look at the rise of the illustrator-as-style influencer and say it’s connected to the fact that people aren’t out and about, dressed up and ready for Scott Schuman or Joshua Woods to capture them on the street. Or maybe that virtually anybody can cosplay Bill Cunningham with the aid of their iPhone. And that’s certainly part of it: there are a million selfies and candid shots of people standing on city streets, but only a few people can really draw. Mr. Slowboy and his contemporaries also present a nice change of pace, a different way of looking at style.

I think it is nice when other brands recognise and appreciate your work. For example recently some car and watch brands approached me. If their subject or item fit my style or if the project is fashion related I would work with them. I wouldn’t do a project with a brand that either has nothing to do with fashion or if it is completely different from my aesthetics. Elsewhere, the special-edition Brompton bike, officially dubbed the Barbour x Brompton C Line Explore, is crafted with a six-gear set-up, an all-weather C17 Brooks saddle and Schwalbe Almotion touring tires. Custom serial plates pay respect to landmark lighthouses located on the coast of South Shields in the North East of England, and gold decals complement an otherwise earth-toned finish. Claudia stretches, her slightly crumpled Merci sheets made of soft cotton gauze, a subtle mixture of Batignolles Yellow, Marais Blue and Gris Fusain, testify to the nocturnal excitement… Baby N°2 doesn't sleep through the night yet. Mr Slowboy is a London-based Chinese artist with a difference. His distinctive illustrated characters are widely admired for their style, humour and ability to project the London aesthetic, by wearing a mix of traditional and contemporary attire and accessories.

I also like to think that it is like Simpson. You know, Mr Slowboy now becomes a specific world. When you get into it, you become a pert of it too.
