Description

If you want to stain interior doors, trim, cabinets, furniture, or banisters with as little bother as possible, then Minwax Polyshades is the stain for you. This oil-based stain is combined with polyurethane, so unlike most similar stains, you don’t have to apply a separate coat of polyurethane as the final touch to your project. Nor do you have to sand away existing polyurethane or stain down to bare wood; just a light scuff with a fine-grit sandpaper, and you’re ready to go. There are more than 10 beautiful wood tones to choose from, and you also get a choice of two sheens, satin or gloss. Both dry to a semi-transparent lustrous finish.

Oak is a hardwood known for its strength, durability, and distinctive grain patterns. It can be categorised into two main types: red oak and white oak. Choose a lighter stain: Dark stains can make oak look dated. Opt for a lighter stain to give the wood a modern look. However, if you’re up for a challenge or want to try something different, consider staining it with different colors to give it an edge.

This would be a great stain option for oak wood flooring, too, if you want a dark colored wood stain! When using a paint to colour wood, you risk hiding the natural grain. Whereas a wood stain is designed to completely soak into the wood, stain it to your chosen colour and bring out the beauty of the natural grain in the timber. Like all the colours available, both of our Oak Wood Stains are highly concentrated and effectively colour wood in one simple application. Applying Light Oak Wood Stain Wood stain is available in many different colors, most of which are the hues of various types of natural wood, such as mahogany, cherry, oak, or walnut. You can choose a stain that isn’t much different from the color of your natural wood, to add a bit of richer color and UV protection, or you can stain your wood with a darker color if you want to drastically change its appearance. Our Wood Stain is specially formulated to evenly dye wood, ensuring equal and even colour penetration throughout. The stain dries to a natural matt finish in only 10 minutes and has excellent coverage. Finishing wood after staining

A. Yes you can. Our Wood Stain has been designed to deeply penetrate all wooden surfaces. However, you’ll always get best results by giving the wood a light sand first with #100 Sanding Pads. After staining wood, you should finish the job by sealing the stain in with one of our Wood Waxes, Wood Varnishes or Wood Oils. These will enhance the colour of the stain further, provide additional protection and can be used to alter the finish to either satin or gloss. Wood Stain Options Wipe Off Excess: After applying the stain, allow it to sit for a few minutes to penetrate the wood. Then, using a clean cloth, wipe off any excess stain that hasn't been absorbed. This step helps to prevent the stain from drying unevenly and minimises the risk of blotching. The number of coats of wood stain required depends on the desired color and the type of wood you are staining.

Customer Results using our Wood Stain

Whether making furniture, installing flooring, or building cabinetry, choosing the right stain and finish can bring out oak wood's natural beauty. If you are unsure of the wood stain colour, test it on an unseen area first. The stain can be applied with either a cloth, bristle brush, or for best results a Foam Brush. Apply the stain liberally going in the direction of the grain. Leave it to soak in for a minute or two and then wipe any excess of using a Lint Free Cloth. There are also different finishes, or "sheens," of wood stain, as with paint. Matte stains have no shine once dry, while satin stains, which are the most popular, have a natural glow but no pronounced shine. Semi-gloss and gloss finishes are the shiniest, but as with paint, shinier finishes generally show off imperfections in the surface underneath. Minwax Polyshades, which combines sealer with the stain, is available in either satin or gloss sheens.
