HiKOKI has earned its reputation for powerful hardware that does not wear out. Their tools are expensive but you can be assured of a long lifespan and generous warranty. 2. Superior engineering These Stainless screwdrivers are made to avoid surface corrosion on stainless bolts and parts. So mainly useful for food, chemcal and medical machinery. On paper, it differs a lot from Phillips, but in real life, people often confuse the two – which results in damaged screws that can no longer be unscrewed even using a matching screwdriver. It’s easy to see why as the company has a massive range of screwdrivers including tools with LED lighting and manual and electrical modes.

Do you have to buy this one, or are there other good ones? Well, I’ve got some good and some bad news – which one do you want to read first? 🙂Toyo is a renowned manufacturer of glass-cutting tools which are supplied for artists and glaziers to use. The most important tools I have are my insulated screwdrivers designed for working on potentially live circuits. Klein Tools for Electricians are worth every penny. JIS screws: use JIS screwdrivers. Phillips screwdrivers won’t fit very well, so use them with great caution (avoid using them if possible). Samurai have correctly concluded that while screwdriver self-alignment is a great thing, saving split-seconds while inserting it is not worth the headaches with easy cam-out and problems with later disassembling/servicing. So in 1958, they made a very similar design, but with “sharper edges,” to put it that way. A man named John P. Thompson invented (and patented under US Pat. No. #1,908,080) a “recessed cruciform screw” in 1932. In 1933 he also patent-protected a matching screwdriver. But he was probably as good a salesman and capitalist as I am, so he couldn’t get anyone to produce screws and screwdrivers with this patent. 🙂

JDV Products Inc. is Vessel Japan’s Exclusive North American Distributor. We are very proud to represent their prestigious industrial tool line ranging from general hand tools (Japanese cross-points, hex wrenches, wire strippers, hammers, ect.), air impact and torque tools, industrial bits, pneumatic cutting and crimping tools, ESD solutions, and so much more. An urban myth has evolved that Phillips screws were designed to 'cam out' when too much torque is applied. It is not clear why Phillips would have intentionally created a design that would cause the screwdriver to pop out of the screw head in an uncontrolled manner - risking damaging the screws or their surroundings - or why, if this was a genuine benefit, it was not mentioned in the patent. The second cause of confusion is the frequently repeated claim that the "JIS Standard" became obsolete in the 2008. This is wrong, obviously, since the Japanese Industrial Standards extend to many specifications and Japan - like everyone other industrial economy - still need a domestic standards body to maintain them. Firstly, the difference between this driver and other JIS screwdrivers is, it’s not a dedicated JIS driver from Japan. It’s a screw made for working with Philips screws and sports a JIS style design on the tip. Hence, you can use it as a JIS screwdriver anyway. Despite being a global company with a highly automated manufacturing process, the company still retains traditional Japanese blade manufacture with its Takumi brand.Note this is a reference to quality standards and nothing to do with the dimensions of screws and screwdrivers.

On the other hand, a Japanese cross-point screwdriver fits both JIS and Phillips ® screws perfectly. If you don’t know what type of screw you are fastening, then we would highly recommend using a VESSEL Japanese cross-point driver since it’s universal for both screw types. followed by a size-code: #0000, #000, #00, #0 (very small, jeweler-sized ones), #1, #2, #3, and #4 (super large, for heavy machinery). Unfortunately, the Ames # 1404090 is no longer listed (Ames is no longer in business as of February 2013). The screwdrivers they produced were included with industrial equipment like sewing machines and looms.

Read again, and memorize the two sentences above. That is the essence of the problem’s solution. I’ll repeat it with different wording: More importantly, though, the four crisscrossing slots in JIS screws have a different angle than those in Phillips head screws. The angle is slightly different, so you can’t use a Phillips head screwdriver to install or remove a JIS screw or vice versa. Rather, you’ll need a JIS screwdriver. JIS screws are designed with different specifications for the angles of the four crisscrossing slots. As a result, they require the use of a special JIS screwdriver. Hopefully, this gives you a better understanding of the differences between JIS screws and Phillips head screws. Since that bike was now gone, we needed a new test mule and fortunately I recently acquired a 1978 Suzuki GS550E with plenty of very old and very Japanese screws on it.

What about just wanting to try the world’s best of some product, and being able to do so for a type of product we use a lot and can afford to buy the world’s best of. The hardness means that you do not need to apply a lot of pressure to get a controlled and precise finish to the wood plastic or metal you file. 2. Durability I tried consulting local Unior representatives (mechanical engineers) and they were clueless about this problem. I also consulted with a company that sells tools of several different brands to other companies – mechanical engineers there didn’t know the answers. Apart from that, I didn’t find any other tool brand representatives willing to talk in my city or country. Toyo has been producing wheeled glass cutters for 111 years. It was founded in Miyagi prefecture, and by the mid-1960 had relocated to Osaka. In Yugoslavia, in elementary school, we had classes where we were taught how to build, and repair stuff (including the basics of wood, and metal working). Called “The basics of technical education”.

To briefly summarize, at the cost of being repetitive, here’s a list of combinations that work well together (other combinations should be avoided): The first national standards body, the Engineering Standards Committee (now called BSI) was founded in the UK in 1901, and over the next couple of decades equivalent organisations were formed to manage the standards in other countries including ANSI in the USA, DIN in Germany and JIS in Japan [1] These drivers are pretty lightweight and comfy to use. The smallest one weighs only 9 grams. And the largest one is weighing 124 grams. Having such less weight will boost your precision and efficiency to work with screws at even tough-to-reach places. Although the Stanley was noticeably poor, I do not know if this is because it was made to a different (American) specification or just because it is more cheaply made than the rest. Similarly, although I prefer using the Vessels, they are also the most expensive out of the test set.
