Description

The fiddly construction of gloves like this, with waterproof membranes and insulating layers, helps explain their substantial cost. Nevertheless, if you love to spend hours outdoors whatever the weather, it's always worth taking the best pair you can afford. The best gloves keep your hands warm and waterproof when it’s wet, but airy and breathable when it’s dry. Great to prevent the gloves-on, gloves-off dance. Durability There are however some methods that you can use to determine a product’s quality without needing to physically have it.

Some gloves will offer women’s sizing as well as men’s, although cheaper options tend to be unisex. Dexterity We’re really pleased to have scored Montane Men’s Tornado Gloves so highly, givimg it 9.5 out of 10, making it well above the average for all Christmas Gifts. We do not offer to reimburse postage costs if an item doesn't fit / you don't like it / change of mind etc. There’s not much worse than cold hands in the wind and if your gloves aren’t waterproof, you can expect a world of misery. Winter weather is typically wet, windy and snowy and ensuring that your gloves have some form of waterproofing element, whether that be material or the membrane.Montane’s lightweight Tornado gloves are made from tough and stretchy softshell outer fabric, lined on the palm and inside of the fingers with strong and supple goat leather.

I like the style and low profile of Montane’s Tornado gloves. They felt nice on and I was able to carry out whatever tasks I needed to while wearing them. The cuffs were a bit shorter than I would have liked and my wrists did feel a bit exposed as a result, but I understand that this was done on purpose to offer a closer and more comfortable fit. I’d say this would just be a case of personal preference, but what isn’t up for debate is that these are quality gloves that will do a solid job. Gore-Tex is the most popular option, but some manufacturers have created their own materials that are just as good at keeping the wet stuff out. Insulation Warm hands are good, but sweaty hands? Not so much. To prevent that, some gloves offer breathability to add ventilation. That got us thinking though, that we’re looking at every possible item from Montane so it would be good to narrow our search down even further and only look at Montane branded products within the Christmas Gifts category. The cost of Montane Christmas Gifts The large cuff with toggle offers great coverage, while a compression strap helps you achieve a good fit. While the high loft fleece interior makes the glove a dream to wear, it does make the gloves a bit of a pain to pull on when your hands are cold and damp. Apart from this, the Torres Peak gloves are a worthy investment. If you’re looking for something super warm, dexterity will likely be sacrificed, but for a general winter glove that doesn’t focus on sub-zero temperatures – dexterity shouldn’t be an issue. Price – as you’d expect the price of a product can be an instantly recognisable factor on what sort of quality you can expect. Whoever came up with the phrase “you get what you pay for” pretty much hit the nail on the head. Whilst it’s not always the case and there are many bargains to be had, you can as a general rule, expect the higher priced products to offer better quality than a the cheapest option. We’ll dive into the price of Montane Men’s Tornado Gloves in more detail in a moment. Faults deemed to have been caused by misuse or improper care (including washing not in accordance with the product wash care instructions) are not covered by the guarantee.

The cuff isn’t as long as many other winter hiking gloves on test so the coverage isn’t quite as comprehensive, but it’s more than adequate. We felt that a few of the others on test offered a more comfortable experience, but we had no issues with wind and water protection. It’s not too hard to squeeze them on when you have cold hands either. Plus, they work with smartphone screens… In traditional Scottish weather (so much rain) they stood up to whatever Mother Nature could throw at them and kept my hands warm throughout. Others felt more luxurious, but I wouldn’t say these are uncomfortable. They’re easy to pull on with wet hands and offer a great fit with a small Velcro fastening. Single hand cuff adjustment - leather tab with hook and loop fastening allows cuff to be adjusted with minimal fussWhen buying Christmas Gifts, the quality of the product is going to be one of the factors that you really scrutinise before you commit to buying. If you’ve ever been on top of a mountain without gloves when the wind is howling, the rain is pouring and the mercury is dropping, you’ll know just how unpleasant it can be. And while you might have your bombproof waterproofs and rugged boots, you’re still likely to be miserable unless you invest in a decent pair of winter hiking gloves (a good winter base layer wouldn’t go amiss either!). The Men's specific fit of these gloves ensures extra width and a revised fit, while a pre-curved design makes gripping tools and ropes as unrestricted as possible. Lastly, touch screen compatible pads on the fingers and thumbs means you won't have to remove your gloves to use your phone or GPS in freezing environments.

The synthetic insulation, though, does work when wet. How warm are they? Moderately – not enough to keep you cosy in Arctic conditions. For versatility, choose a generous size, so that when it’s really freezing, you can fit an extra pair of liner gloves inside (see below). (JP)

Conductive leather panels on thumb, index and middle fingertips for use with touch sensitive screens The Illuminator Sensor gloves are one of the few on test that have a low profile, and as such it’s pretty easy to do things when you’re wearing them. Despite that low profile, they still offer a good level of warmth, but perhaps not quite as much as the Sealskinz and Extremities gloves. They’re durable, thanks to the tough materials that are used in the construction (including goat leather) and a Velcro strap means you can get a good fit.
