Philips TVs don't top our list, but they always feature strongly. Their screens are reliable and bright with some notable cool additions, including Ambilight, a system that projects lights onto the wall behind a TV display. Premium Philips TVs also have a considerable audio boost thanks to a partnership with Bowers & Wilkins. You want the ultimate cutting-edge TV: This TV is as good as mini-LED gets currently, and its 8K screen uses AI smarts to make even 4K video look better than 4K. The Samsung BU8500 is the company's highest-end TV from its 2022 range that doesn't include the more expensive QLED technology that Samsung is famous for. But that means you save a bunch on the price, and the image quality overall is still pretty much unbeatable at this level. The seemingly effortless way that the A80L combines the spectacular with the subtle is quite extraordinary. The neon lights and holographic billboards of Blade Runner 2049’s downtown LA pop from the overall gloom of the city in brilliant fashion, but skin tones are handled with realism-boosting nuance and the seemingly hundreds of slightly different shades of grey that make up the bark of the tree at Sapper Morton’s farm are made clear to see.

Although this guide is very much focused on audio specs, no one wants a TV that sounds great and looks mediocre. That's why every TV on this list has also been tested against the criteria we apply to all of our TV buying guides. Of course you shouldn't feel hemmed in by these four brands – Panasonic offers excellent premium TVs with a focus on image quality in particular, and Hisense and TCL offer great value in the mid-range and affordable end of the market. Which brand of TV is most reliable? While flagship sets with discrete speaker systems will sound even better, for a step-down model the A80L sounds very impressive. This should be a strong consideration for anyone with this sort of budget who is determined not to combine their new TV with a dedicated sound system. Both LG and Samsung are excellent TV brands and you can't really go wrong with either. However, there are some areas where one TV maker could be a better option than the other. If you're looking for the best TV for sound, first consider whether you need one. There are many more options available if you're willing to get a great-looking TV with mediocre sound and pair it with a soundbar or sound system instead. The 42-inch C3 has a different design to its larger siblings that makes it look more like a monitor or bedroom TV. The biggest design difference is that it has two blade-like feet rather than a pedestal. The 48-inch version of the LG C3 OLED is every bit as capable as its smaller sibling and has a nicer design. It's usually better value, too, costing only a little more. Our job is to help you find the best TV in your budget range, based on our extensive testing experience with these sets. We'll cut the overwhelming number of options down to just the most worthwhile, from cheap options to cutting-edge flagship sets.

But behind the screen is Sony’s Acoustic Surface Audio+ tech, which uses three actuators behind the panel to create sound by vibrating the screen itself, creating a big open sound. There are two more actuators at the side to add width, while two woofer drivers add bass. But the 807's picture quality might be even more striking than its design – and that's saying a lot. Philips’ latest picture processing engine pushes the panel hard for good brightness and great contrast. The result is some of the most vibrant pictures we've seen from an OLED at this price, though the Samsung S90C ( #1 on this list) and the Samsung S95C ( #4 on this list) have it well beaten for brightness. Although, you do need to do some tweaking to get its pictures to their best, and its menus can be a little confusing. You have multiple cutting-edge gaming devices: Only two of the OLED807’s HDMI ports support all the latest gaming features. This question is pretty much moot now, as the vast majority of TVs are now 4K. It's actually rather hard to find Full HD (1080p) models, even at relatively small sizes. You want the best TV and money is no object: The Samsung S95C ( #4 in this list) offers even better contrast, and the Samsung QN900C ( #5 in the list) is like this with even more brightness and 8K detail.Like other Sony TVs, the X90J uses Sony’s new X-Balanced Speaker to deliver clearer sound with less distortion at high volumes and the tweeters help broaden the soundstage of the TV—although it does make some compromises on the bass response. This is a very impressive all-rounder, but it is expensive compared to other models, like the Sony X90J, which is a little more budget-friendly. The Samsung S95C is not just beautiful in picture but also in design. A sleek, stylish frame and ultra-slim trim means the S95C looks fantastic, especially when hung on the wall thanks to its razor thin depth. It also comes with a separate box called the One Connect for connections so there's one cable running to the TV. You want well-balanced audio out of the box: Sound here is on the ‘edgy’ side. But with most TVs, we really would recommend a soundbar anyway.

All Samsung Neo QLED TVs and HDMI 2.1* work in perfect synergy with next-gen consoles to deliver ultra-low input lag and ultra-responsive gameplay. But if you're looking for The Samsung QN900C's stunning picture quality with exceptional color and brightness takes 8K to a whole new level, and it really can look better than 4K. This OLED TV houses a 2.2-channel system with 40W of power. Granted, that's not as powerful as a separate soundbar, nor as immersive as a true surround sound system. However, in our review of the LG C2 OLED we wrote: "the LG C2 OLED does a good job of providing a clear and fairly spacious listening experience." Especially for a slim TV.Not just for sports fans, the TV also comes with a whole host of gaming features including HDMI 2.1 across all four of its HDMI ports and a variety of cloud-based gaming features with support for Xbox, Nvidia GeForce Now and more. Other apps that are less common but potentially worth looking out for include BT Sport, Now, Britbox, and music apps such as Spotify and Tidal. Should you buy an OLED, QLED or LCD TV?
