Description

Mornings with Rosemary is a novel that dives deep into community, friendship and mental health. I LOVED all the characters. I was seriously so invested and felt my heart being pulled to these fictional characters. Located near the Queen Elizabeth Gate at Hyde Park Corner, the statue of Achilles was the first statue installed in Hyde Park and was commissioned by a patriotic, upper class society, known as Ladies of England.

Everything begins to change the day that Kate is given a job covering a story about the lido, tossing a leaflet with “Save our lido” written on the outside. She reads their plea; the council has declared that due to financial worries they are considering a private bid to buy the building from a corporation who wants to turn it into a gym for private members. Finally, a real story; she hopes she can help, make a difference With a rich ensemble of secondary characters, The Lido serves as a timely reminder of all that we stand to lose through the destruction of our local services, and a joyful celebration of community and friendship. You’re really close to other amazing gardens! Cross over into Kensington Gardens and stroll the 400m long Flower Walk or the Italian Gardens. And if it’s spring – don’t miss the drifts of thousands of daffodils in both St. James’s Park and The Green Park Can I bring my dog? The rich political history of the so-called ‘People’s Park’ is commemorated at the Reformers’ Tree, where a mosaic on the ground reminds visitors of the Victorians who came to the park demanding a vote for all adult men. This is the original Rotten Row, which is a corruption of the French 'Route de Roi' or King's Road. Hyde Park and a Queen’s touch

This book is like a hug! Kate, is on the brink of a journalist career and feels more comfortable in her books than she does in real life. Rosemary aged 86, is upset to think the lido might be closing and wants to try everything she can to save it. Kate starts to write a story about it and their joint friendships and campaign begins in earnest.

I’m Lucy, an award-winning book blogger, bibliotherapist and writer with a passion for brilliant books, independent bookstores, literary travel and book festivals around the world. The Literary Edit is your guide to the beautiful world of books. I fell in love with Rosemary and Kate's characters from the outset. The insight into Rosemary's young life when she met George was lovely. Although sad in parts it really is a feel-good read. The statue was made by Sir Richard Westmacott using 33 tonnes of bronze from cannons captured in Wellington's campaigns in France. The body of the statue is modelled on a Roman figure on Monte Cavallo in Italy. The head is based on the Duke himself. This unique memorial to Diana, Princess of Wales was opened by Her Majesty The Queen on 6th July 2004. The lido is not just Rosemary’s solace, it is a solace for that young mother, a middle aged man, a young shy kid, school children coming to practice and countless others who come to ‘the lido’ to drown out their sorrows and find strength to manoeuvre life. The lido is that constant friend, welcoming everyone...day in and day out. The lido is that place where they can hear their inner voice and drown out the world. It’s their comfort place in this world.

The Lido’ is a very touching story about an 86-year old woman named Rosemary Peterson who lives in the village of Brixton in England. Her apartment's balcony overlooks "The Lido," otherwise known as the local community pool. Rosemary is 86 and is a widow. She has been swimming at the Lido almost eighty years. It is filled with memories. And then the dreadful news comes that the Lido will be shut down. The property under off from a company that plans to demolish it and build luxury apartments on the land. She puts out some fliers trying to stop the council selling and the pool being demolished. In my opinion, human interaction — that good old in-person connection - is more rewarding. Nothing emphasises the importance of human connection, relationships, and living in a close knit community during these pandemic times better than the “The Lido” does.
