Adding soil to an existing aquarium can be a great way to create a more naturalistic environment for your fish and other aquatic creatures. Here are some tips on how to add soil to your aquarium:1. Choose the right type of soil. If you don’t like sand or if your other fish prefer gravel, this can be a good substrate for cory catfish, too. Try to find the origin or material from the sand. Some types of sand like play sand and coral sand have a lot of calcium and are sharp. As above, Fluval appears to claim it will only last for up to 2 years, then presumably need replacing. I have yet to see this, so I would say no, it doesn’t need replacing unless it has broken down to a dusty mess. Should You Gravel Vacuum Fluval Stratum? Rough handling may cause some pellets to break, and the resulting dust and particles may cloud the water. You should rinse Fluval Stratum Substrate gently with slow-flowing water as its particles are very delicate.
