For starters, this Sony HT-A5000 soundbar has Dolby Atmos support for immersive sound plus additional features, like 360 spatial sound that adapts to the environment, smart calibration to match your room, and much more. While previously, the Sony HT-A3000 was the best budget option in the series, this price drop should put the HT-A5000 on everyone's radar. UA Stormproof waterproof technology with an IPX7 rating for water & sweat protection during your workouts As you'd expect, the headphones can play quite loud without distortion, but those around you will notice some sound leakage (even at 50% volume). As mentioned, there's no noise cancellation, which makes a certain amount of sense -- since they're for working out, and you probably should know your surroundings -- but it seems like an oversight to me, especially at this price point. From indoor cycling to skateboarding, these earbuds served me well during all of my activities. Whenever I cycle, I become grossly sweaty but the IPX7-rated UA True Wireless FLASH X by JBL handled my perspiration like a champ. The buttons were easy to control with sweaty palms and fingers; I only wish that volume controls were enabled directly from the headset. Athletes who use chalk may want to use these earbuds with caution because they aren’t officially dust-resistant. A built-in array of three mics allows for TalkThru mode—tapping the Under Armour logo on the outer panel of the right ear fades out your music and allows you to hear your surroundings without removing the headphones. For voice calls, the mic offers average intelligibility. Using the Voice Memos app on an iPhone 6s, we understood each word we recorded, though there were some typical, fuzzy Bluetooth audio artifacts. The inline mic for the cable delivers solid clarity, with some added bass depth.

Songs like Dierks Bentley’s Burning Man or the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ By The Way suggested the Wireless Train were able to avoid getting muddy or cramped. There are better sounding headphones –lots of them in fact — but for workout cans, these were more than sufficient.

Should you download the My JBL Headphones app?

JBL estimates battery life to be roughly 16 hours, but your results will vary with your volume levels. Performance I’m not thrilled about the Wireless Train supporting just Bluetooth 4.1 technology, since it means connectivity and range aren’t up to par with devices that support the newer, better Bluetooth 5 standard. This brings up an important caveat about the Wireless Train: At the time of this review, they’re already two years old. In tech time, that’s about a century. After reviewing the Adidas RPT-01, I went looking for the closest comparison I could find. The Wireless Train were the clear answer because of their price and design, and unfortunately for these headphones, they’re going to be rated by modern-day standards instead of their heyday in 2018.

The Wireless Train may not have gotten as deep into the low end as the Adidas were capable of, but they still had solid, refined bass. More importantly, they simply filled out the rest of the frequency spectrum better. The Wireless Train have 40mm drivers with a frequency response range of 16-20,000Hz, and they prove to be exactly as capable as those specifications might suggest. This is one of the more premium charging cases on the market: an aluminum cover sheathes a sliding plastic piece that holds the earbuds. One end of the case has a fabric loop, so you can clip it onto a bag or hang it from a wall hook. The other end of the case houses a rubberized flap to protect the USB-C port. That’s not to say the Wireless Train can’t still be capable headphones — they can. But up against a comparatively brand-new product, it’s going to be an uphill battle for these JBL cans. DesignAthletes should put these earbuds on their lists because they’re extremely durable as proven by the IPX7 rating. Plus, the ear and wing tip combination keeps the earbuds in place during intense exercises. UA Storm Super Grip maximizes stability & UA SuperVent ear cushions are breathable, light & fast-drying Rugged, on-ear design, with an IPX4 rating, built to withstand sweat in the toughest gym conditions Pressing the Under Armour logo on the right earcup will drop down your music volume and pipe in surrounding sounds. Audio quality

The right ear cup is home to all of the controls, and they are quite oversized so you can easily find them by touch. Still, the power/Bluetooth pairing button isn't intuitive: You have to slide it up and hold it for about five seconds till it turns white for pairing; it will eventually turn blue once the headphones are connected to your device. JBL says the headphones have an ingress protection rating of IPX4, which means they can handle splashing water, but can't really take much water pressure (like from a nozzle or jet) and shouldn't be submerged. Generally speaking, this is a fairly low IP rating for sports-focused audio gear, but on-ear headphones are a bit tougher to make completely waterproof. If a more watertight option is a priority, consider an in-ear pair.

Includes: 3 size ear tips, 3 winged ear tip enhancers, charging case with Micro-USB port & charging cable Ambient Aware technology allows you to listen to your music, but still be aware of your surroundings The Under Armour True Wireless feature Bluetooth 4.2 rather than the latest Bluetooth 5.0 standard, and there are occasions when the connection feels a bit patchy – though we never found it cut out entirely. The UA Sport Wireless Train are well past their prime in terms of features. That being said, the audio quality of these cans has withstood the test of time, and that just might earn them the occasional spot in the lineup as a battle-tested veteran. Are there better alternatives? There’s also a function button on the left-hand ear-cup to summon the preferred digital assistant on a mobile device, or toggle between the Everyday and Active ANC modes. While I appreciate the button being there, it would have been nice had it delivered a bit more functionality, such as the ability to toggle various EQ presets.
