In my testing with a single 2x2 Wi-Fi 6 client at close range, performance didn’t change by a significant amount. The access point can reach an aggregate throughput rate up to 3 Gbps with its 5 GHz (4x4 MU-MIMO and OFDMA) and 2. We were generally unimpressed with the early devices, which displayed inconsistent performance and lacked key functionality (such as OFDMA support for the uplink).

Buffering videos, browsing taking far too long, that little sad face that pops up when you have no internet connection, we all know these feelings far too well. The performance improvements and value make the AC-Pro, AC-Lite, nanoHD, AC-HD and all the other indoor Wi-Fi 5 AP models harder to recommend. I noticed that the antenna connectors are glued to the PCB and that the heat transfer is essentially immediate towards the metallic bottom part with no aluminum covers or heatsinks in between.Doubling your channel width increases the noise floor by 3 dB, reducing SNR and your range by around 30% each time.

Having said this, the introduction of new modulation and coding schemes with Wi-Fi 6 (using 1024-QAM) does provide for modest speed improvements in excellent radio conditions. The photograph, below, shows the new Ubiquiti UniFi 6 Long Range Access Point, which we review in this article. For the final test to compare the new Unifi Wifi 6 access points I measured before and after replacing the access points at the locations I use the wireless network the most. What I really like about both new access points is that you can still use the old wall/ceiling mount on the new access points. The Wi-Fi 6 market has now taken a considerable step forward with the arrival of two Wi-Fi 6 Access Points from Ubiquiti.Wi-Fi 6 allows more devices to use the same Wi-Fi channels and frequencies with less issues related to interference. enabling a minimum RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) to prevent distant devices from connecting to the Access Point (to improve overall quality).

With modern Apple devices (equipped with 2×2 MIMO), we measured real, close-range throughputs of over 900 Mbps, compared with about 640 Mbps achieved with the nanoHD Access Point. You can also run the test with multiple threads, which can increase the total speed that you can get, to do this use the -P switch: iperf3 -c 192.The highest modulation levels require you to be very close to an access point, and realistic throughput numbers are lower.

GHz processor with 512MB of RAM, which we assume is improved since Wi-Fi 6 is computationally much more intensive than Wi-Fi 5.Apart from just being plain annoying, signs like these could mean that your Wi-Fi signal has slowed down, and it's time to boost that Wi-Fi connection. While Wi-Fi 6 is more about efficiency improvement rather than speed enhancement, we still measured significant throughput increases. Before getting to the actual results, I need to mention that a PoE adapter or switch is mandatory, and I used the Zyxel XS1930 which was way overkill for a Gigabit connection, but I had it already installed from when I tested the EnGenius ECW336 (not that Ubiquiti actually sends me anything, let alone an Ethernet switch). If you are currently using the single Wi-Fi 5 router provided by your broadband provider, then what are you waiting for?
