Description

With a 28mm FF equivalent FOV, macro lens, leaf shutter, built in ND filter and rear touch screen, the configuration of this camera is anything but simple. The feature that makes this camera popular is "snap focus" - you can configure it to instantly focus at a predefined distance per a preconfigured input. These inputs can be a sudden "full press" of the shutter release, a tap of the rear LCD - and possibly others. It is essentially zone-focusing by another name. If you choose, say 1.5m and f8, the instant you squeeze the shutter, everything from about 1m to 5m will be in acceptably sharp focus. Indeed the iPhone sort of proves that point, even though the only choice required is where? and when? you don’t even need to know about the old rules. It such a fun camera to use. Easy for beginners, advanced features for professionals on the go. It weighs less to nothing so there is no excuse to leave it at home. Because of it’s minimalist appearance, it doesn’t stand out when you photograph the streets. I was working with 50mm on my previous nikon but the focal length was working against me. With GR’s 28mm, I felt like I got the correct prescription glasses to see the world clearly.

interested in night photography, and there's also a Bulb setting for even longer exposures. The shot below was taken A high-end digital compact camera, featuring a newly developed GR lens for high-quality street photography at a standard viewing angle The GR III continues to feature a 28mm F2.8 wide-angle fixed focal length lens with a 9-blade aperture, which is perfect for wide-angle and street shots. Obviously this isn't the camera for you if you'd prefer a zoom lens though!

LONDON, 22 February 2019 -RICOH COMPANY, LTD. and RICOH IMAGING COMPANY,LTD. are pleased to announce the launch of the RICOH GR III. This high-end digital compact camera harmonizes high quality, high-resolution images with intuitive, responsive snapshot capabilities in its compact, lightweight body — making it an excellent choice for enthusiast and professional photographers alike.

away from the subject. The extensive range of Image Controls allow you to get creative in-camera with both JPEG and RAW files. Most standard speedlight systems are unwieldy on the tiny GR III. Here are two that have been well-reviewed and play well with the form factor and portability: the Lightpix Labs Q20 II flash (manual only) and the Pentax AF201FG flashgun (TTL metering). These trappings all but mirror the previous GR III, including under the hood with the same 24-megapixel APS-C sensor. The biggest change is in the lens, where Ricoh gave people the ability to get closer to subjects through the 40mm equivalent f/2.8 fixed lens. Street photographers will probably prefer this focal length for a number of reasons, but it’s applicable to any type of shooter looking for a happy medium when 28mm is too wide and 50mm is too tight. This function is available at shutter speeds slower than 1/1000 second._ 5. Compact, lightweight design

The RICOH GR IIIx has been developed in response to user requests for a new GR-series camera that will add a new perspective to the highly acclaimed RICOH GR III. The GR III was released in March 2019, featuring a 28mm wide-angle lens and designed to further enhance the essential values of the GR-series: optimizing image quality, snapshot capabilities and portability. The newly designed 26.1mm GR lens provides a 40mm angle of view in the 35mm format, close to the photographer’s own effective field of view. Depending on the way the lens is used, this versatile angle of view can create different image renditions: you can capture an image similar to those taken at a 30mm semi-wide angle, or create a completely different visual expression as if taken at a 50mm standard angle. The camera also provides a range of new and upgraded post-shooting functions to edit captured images to the photographer’s preference. My gut feeling is that the overheating issue is one of those that people talk about more than actually experience. In virtually all the online discussion that I’ve seen, it’s either mentioned by people warning about it (often citing that second link, rather than offering first-hand experience) or by people interested in buying it, but worried by what they have read. The Snap Focus feature in the GR series is pure genius and has the street photographer in mind at the heart of its application. Basically this feature allows you to set a focal distance of 1m, 1.5m, 2m or 2.5m which when having your lens stopped down to say f/8 will give you an extremely deep depth of field insuring your scene is in focus. Couple that with the other feature of snap focus whereas the lens now having been set at lets say 1.5m doesn't not need to prefocus or hunt before taking the image. The camera simple tells the lens to adjust itself to 1.5 meters then snap the image. Essentially turning your Ricoh GR into a glorified point and shoot camera. This is an amazing and powerful feature while on the street and the little Ricoh performs this function fast without hesitation.

The autofocus and burst rate are not up to speed for that. Also, shooting sports action with a 28mm equivalent lens? Nah. Minimum safe distancing The GR III features a hybrid AF system combining a contrast-type AF mechanism with superior focusing precision and a phase-detection-type AF mechanism guaranteeing high- speed focusing operation. Both mechanisms ensure that it delivers a faster, more responsive autofocus operation. At the heart of the Ricoh GR III is an APS-C-size CMOS image sensor with 24.23 megapixels and no low-pass anti-aliasing filter. It has a 28mm fixed focal length lens with six optical elements in four groups, fast maximum aperture of f/2.8, 3-axis image stabilisation system, a nine-blade diaphragm, macro shooting capability of 6cms, and a built-in manually adjustable ND (neutral density) filter. M Mode Dial Setting, ADJ Mode Setting, Fn Button Setting, Shutter Release, Button Setting, 4-way Controller Action, Shutter Release Button Confirmation, LCD Touch Operation, Touch AFThe Ricoh GR III has an extensive range of creative Image Controls which can be applied to both JPEG and RAW files, with 9 different options on offer. One of the special features of this camera is that the SOOC (straight out of camera) .jpgs look fabulous. While you can shoot RAW, many people don't feel the need to edit them. One advantage to shooting RAW is that you can reprocess the image in your camera. With the Ricoh GR III, everything is one-handed operation and it was so easy to use that I could start with the basis principles of photography and simply document wherever I went. Over time I went from P mode to shutter and aperture priority and then completely manual because I scaffolded my learning of how to use the camera. Because of GR I was able to have some personal style and becoming more confident in street photography.

It’s been out for a while now but I still think it’s best at what it does compared to everything else out there. Still eyeing the GRiiix and will probably bite when they release the Diary edition for it. As someone who has an OG APS-C GR (2013) and adores it, but is also a fan of 40mm equivalent lenses since he laid his hand on the Canonet QL17 about 15 years ago ...Offering the same high image quality as the standard RICOH GR III, the small, lightweight camera body has been treated with a metallic gray finish designed to appeal to a street photographer, evoking the asphalt pavement in the city. The finish features an elegantly grained texture that is smooth in appearance but helps improve camera grip. It’s accentuated with an orange-yellow lens barrel ring, reminiscent of traffic lines painted on streets.
