Description

A friend as asked me to post this on his behalf, he as obtained a second hand copper hood, which after refurbishing, he intends to fit above an electric fire in his lounge. I wanted to try to stay away from using a brush application as I am not sure what the finish will be like compared to a spray can.

Common household and proprietary products are available that can be used to clean copper and brass without the need for muscular effort. I was restoring an old carriage clock thats been in the family for years and has a lot of sentimental value. Lacquer seems to be the most common finish used — some have suggested a “baking-on” process that I need to look into — but there also seem to be some general questions about durability, adhesion, etc. If the surface is not smooth, a nail brush should be used to ensure there is no polish left in the crevices.

Dries to a completely clear colourless film preventing the oxidisation and tarnishing of brass, copper, bronze and silver. The surface of the lacquer gives a bright but shallow reflection clearly different to the deep glow of a good polish but is acceptable for much domestic hardware and electrical fittings. So I designed and built this copper pipe table and are in the process of now building the wooden top but want to prevent the copper from tarnishing as much as possible.

Shake Tableau Anti-Tarnish Lacquer can thoroughly and spray a light even coat from approximately 20cm.Use as little or as much polish as you need - plenty of polish may be needed to cut through heavy tarnish easily. V. protection for copper roofs, copper gutters, copper cupolas, copper garden art and countless other copper items. If possible objects such as letterboxes should be removed from the door so that at least one coat of lacquer can be applied to the edges of the reverse side. NEUTRALIZE ACIDS – Acid traces must be removed from the surface otherwise black marks/dark cloudiness will appear under the coating.
