Description

I started to think of handmade painter pyramids, because I heard someone who asked where to find something like these to buy. I came up with the idea that they are very simple to be done and deserve to be tried as a DIY project. I like to make a prototype to see if I like the final result before making a whole bunch of something. I also come up with improvements or better ways of doing things during the prototyping. But you can skip this part. Prior to my husband sharing how to make my own painter’s stands, I didn’t even know there was such a thing or that you could actually buy them. Maybe you didn’t know either. Today’s DIY Painter’s Pyramid Stands is another one of his ideas that I’m now taking credit for simply by the fact that I’m sharing the tutorial with you. Ideas for the Home by Kenarry ™

Draw a line across the middle to create two squares, then draw the diagonals of each square to find the middle of each square. With a square, transpose the two centers to the sides of the rectangle so that you can use them as reference. Dimensions might be driven by the scraps available... You can finish it off by drilling a hole and driving a screw to see if you like the finished product. Painter’s Pyramids also work well for spray paint. However, depending on the project, Hubs likes to use special jigs he makes for especially for spray painting. See how to paint using a spray gun to see those. Dauzats had traveled to Egypt as part of the entourage of arts impresario baron Isidore Taylor (1789–1879), who led a diplomatic mission to negotiate with Egypt’s ruler, Muhammad Ali (1769–1849), for the acquisition of the obelisks that then stood as a pair at the entrance to the Temple of Luxor; one of them would be installed at the center of the Place de la Concorde in Paris in October 1836. (For a view of the gate to the Temple of Luxor with its sole remaining obelisk painted in the same month, see the oil sketch by Antoine-Xavier-Gabriel de Gazeau, comte de La Bouëre, 2003.42.37). Dauzats and contemporaries who undertook similar journeys about the same time, including Alexandre-Gabriel Decamps (Turkey, 1828), Prosper Marilhat (Egypt, 1831–32), and Eugène Delacroix (Morocco and Algeria, 1832), are generally credited with elevating Orientalist subjects as a popular genre, one that served as a filter through which Europeans visualized and indeed conceptualized the Muslim world for much of the nineteenth century. I chose to cut the pyramid with the circular saw, because I didn’t want to break all the circular saw table settings. I used the circular saw also because the piece I was about to cut would have been small enough for being a huge risk to be caught by the blade and discarded. I marked a sign to make them all at the same length, and I cut the first pyramid. Establishing the length of the handmade wooden painter pyramids So we’ve told you all about Painters Pyramids, but do they really work in practical use? Yes! We have used them on many projects including this DIY China Cabinet Makeover and this painted sewing box. This is what the china cabinet looked like before the transformation:Paint Stirrers / Mixers Plastering Tools Surface/Floor Protection Systainers & Cases Tape & Spirit Measure Trays & Kettles Wallpaper Accessories Wet Paint Signs 3M Command 3M Claw Laying Off Brushes Paperhangers & Dusters Stencil Brushes Wall Brushes Special Effect Brushes Staalmeester One Range Brush Storage/ Protection The best part is that you won’t accidentally brush paint on your work surface because it raises your item off the table, like the shelf I’m painting below. Actually, today, you’ll find me over on Ideas for the Home by Kenarry ™ sharing the full DIY tutorial on how to make these Painter’s Pyramid Stands. These DIY Painter’s Pyramid Stands have been an enormous time saver when working on projects that require painting both sides or even just the edges.

More DIY Ideas Painter’s pyramids are triangular shaped plastic supports used to elevate objects, such as furniture, shelves or cabinets, while they are being painted. They have rounded points that minimize any marks. That’s so you can prop up your paint project, then you can flip it over almost immediately to paint the other side. My husband is the king of finding ways to work more efficiently. Especially if the efficiency eliminates annoyances or saves time. If it does both, it’s doubly good. DIY Painter’s Pyramid Stands Make Your Own Painter’s Pyramid StandsBasic Brush Mate Clover Chemicals Coral Eco Union Go! Paint Hamilton Icon Protection Laddermat MPB Olfa Given its sketchlike quality it is tempting to suppose that Dauzats painted the picture before the motif, but he is more likely to have done so after his return to France in the fall of 1830, perhaps at the same time that he was preparing for his debut at the Salon of 1831. There he showed two related subjects, a painting, Al-Azhar Mosque, Cairo (Assemblée Nationale, Paris), and a drawing, Turkish Café in Alexandria (whereabouts unknown). The present work is signed with the artist’s initials in a form that he used for a short period about 1830 (see Plessier 1990), yet its early history remains untraced, and it was unknown to scholars until it surfaced on the Paris art market in 1983.

Painter’s Pyramids will allow you to paint a project in less time because you don’t have to factor in dry time on one side before you can work on the other. Just flip it over and paint away. The new improved version has tabs, which allow you to secure the painter’s pyramids to your work surface. Secure them either with tape, or screws if you prefer and have a work bench. If you’d like to see them in action, our Painter’s Pyramid video is under 5 minutes and will explain everything. Or read on to find out what I taught Hubs; score one for me :). It’s been a while since I’ve bragged on my husband and shared one of his ideas. You know, it’s really not quite fair that he does all the work and I get all the credit. To make a prototype, take a rectangular piece of scrap. Ideally, the long side should be twice the small side.Once you tape them in all 4 corners, your Painter’s Pyramids can’t accidentally shift when you flip our piece over. They stay exactly where you place them.
